OUR STORY
We are Claire & Dan. Read how we got into the luxury wedding cake busuness.
Our cake making story is probably very similar to many others in the early days. Claire has always baked, right from a child, including one concoction involving mint sauce! (she was 5)
Growing up her focus was always on all things creative. But she took that in the direction of horticulture. Training and working in plant nurseries where she met Richard, who she married back in 2000, and is the best washing up person in Cornwall!
Cake making and baking were still there in the background though, for family and friends. This became more of a focus after their son, Jamie, was born in 2004, having the time to bake more and experiment with recipies.
Lovely Jamie was diognised with profound autism and SOTOS syndrome, meaning Claire needed to find a way to work and still be flexible for his (at that time) regular hospital appointments.
In 2012 a local café asked her to start making cakes for them to sell by the slice. She said yes and her business Claire’s Sweet Temptations was born. As Jamie’s health settled and the appointments became less and less frequent, the cake orders got more frequent. It was perfect timing.
In 2013 she was asked to make her first wedding cake by a customer of the café who adored her cakes. And so a new chapter started. Lots of classes in sugar flowers and the intricacies of cake decorating later, one wedding cake turned into many, many more over the next few years. By 2017 Claire’s Sweet Temptations was dedicating 90% of the time to wedding cakes.
It was during this time building up the wedding cake side of the business that Claire met the lovely Christine from Peboryon at wedding fairs. A cake making friendship began and they started recommending each other to any clients who needed a date that was already booked. Especially as they were often working with the same venues and wedding planners, and moving in the same networking circles within the luxury wedding industry. By this time Claire’s Sweet Temptations had built a strong reputation within the luxury wedding sector. Claire was regularly attending events in London with The National Association of Wedding Professionals and was headhunted to join BrideLux.
Fast forward to 2020. A year that threw the wedding industry into chaos. Strong connections and being able to rely on each other for support became all important to get us through. In that year Claire moved around 50 weddings to 2021! t was also during this time that Phil and Christine asked Claire to join the Peboryon team as a collaborator. It was obvious that we were all going to need each others help over the next year or so.
At the beginning of the 2021 wedding season Claire took on Dan to help with all the extra deliveries. He is now a vital part of the team, and a permanent fixture. You will very likely see him delivering and setting up wedding cakes, you can’t miss him, he’s 6’7”!
At the end of 2021 Christine asked Claire to take over Peboryon completly. It was an honour and we are delighted to be taking the brand into the future. Already we have been the finalist in the 2022 BrideLux UK Awards, and the RSVP Club 2023 Global Wedding Awards, amongst others. You’ll also find us delivering to some of London’s best hotels and venues. A Peboryon cake has become quite sought after!
We look forward to making your very special wedding or event cake.
